If you could make them for around $250-$300 each I would take one. If you could make them for $150-$200 or less I would take two. I hope you go and make these but you know what will happen as soon as you get them done someone will import originals for $99. That is how it works. A couple years ago there was a original stock on GB that went for over $400.

 

I dont see these being imported in enough quantity to sell for $99... These weren't mass produced for many years like the Wire Folding Stock and I would be surprised if more than 1000 ever existed. Even the wire folding stock commands $99

The trunnion itself adds a lot to the cost as it requires many machining operations and occupies a good bit of time on the CNC.

That stock is the sole reason I never bought one of those rifles. If you can make one and keep it under $300, I'm in.

The US stamps would be in a very inconspicuous Area (not visible without disassembly) and will be as exact as possible.

Last originals I saw sell on GB went for $400+ (only 50 known to exsist in the US all originally imported by Century Arms and then bought and sold by 1 individual)

Just a little update, met with the Machine Shop today, good news is they are confident they can replicate the trunnion, latch, and front part of stock to a T and were excited to do so!, bad news is they dont do stamping for the buttplate but said they could make a die for me to stamp and jig to drill the holes...

I left the parts with them today to blueprint. They were intrigued with the rear trunnion and said that it would occupy a minimum of 1 hour on a CNC with the amount of milling/drilling operations that must be performed.

The Rear Trunnion is looking like a $100 part at least...

Do you guys know someone that would take on the butt plate? Water Jet then stamped would probably be the easiest.

On an interesting side not the machinist noticed that on the bottom of the stock is a threaded hole! I just assumed it was a drain hole of sorts but it is threaded? Anyone know what this could have been used for?

I would be interested in one if it has a sling mount and is priced around $200.00.

 

The plan is to install the sling loop as the original one was on the stock latch/button

I can almost guarantee they will be more than $200 if done correctly, I could make something similar for $200 but I want to make a visually identical copy. If it were me I wouldn't buy anything less...

 

That's the way to go. These limited run custom parts are by nature expensive to produce, so when you get above a certain price point you have to make darn sure to stay as close as possible to original, or there's no point in doing them. In other words, cutting corners or straying from the original design risks losing important sales to serious collectors who are much more inclined to spend that kind of money in the first place. But, judging by your previous words and personal tastes, I have no doubt you were already working under those same parameters, hehe! I love these types of home grown collector-driven projects, and wish you the best of success!

 

So is this still in the "it'd be really cool if I could do this" phase, or have we moved to the "its gonna happen" stage yet? Any kind of timeline?

 

I guarantee I am working diligent on this, just talked to the machine shop today, they are still working on the drawings... After they get the drawings done they want to do a prototype to see exactly how much it will cost.

But so far only a handful of people are interested at any price.... I would need to know I had at least 25 "Pre-Sold" before I went into production.

Trust me you will be updated the second I know!

BOTTOM LINE - If I cant sell it for less than $300 it wont be made, simple as that. I would be willing to sell the blue prints to someone else that would be interested in the project just to recover the money I have already spent.

Drawing of trunnion complete, they are going to run a protoype to see how it turns out and how much time each one will take!
