The plan is to install the sling loop as the original one was on the stock latch/button

I can almost guarantee they will be more than $200 if done correctly, I could make something similar for $200 but I want to make a visually identical copy. If it were me I wouldn't buy anything less...

That's the way to go. These limited run custom parts are by nature expensive to produce, so when you get above a certain price point you have to make darn sure to stay as close as possible to original, or there's no point in doing them. In other words, cutting corners or straying from the original design risks losing important sales to serious collectors who are much more inclined to spend that kind of money in the first place. But, judging by your previous words and personal tastes, I have no doubt you were already working under those same parameters, hehe! I love these types of home grown collector-driven projects, and wish you the best of success!

So is this still in the "it'd be really cool if I could do this" phase, or have we moved to the "its gonna happen" stage yet? Any kind of timeline?

I guarantee I am working diligent on this, just talked to the machine shop today, they are still working on the drawings... After they get the drawings done they want to do a prototype to see exactly how much it will cost.

But so far only a handful of people are interested at any price.... I would need to know I had at least 25 "Pre-Sold" before I went into production.

Trust me you will be updated the second I know!

BOTTOM LINE - If I cant sell it for less than $300 it wont be made, simple as that. I would be willing to sell the blue prints to someone else that would be interested in the project just to recover the money I have already spent.

Drawing of trunnion complete, they are going to run a protoype to see how it turns out and how much time each one will take!

Been out of the loop a couple weeks training. Still excited to see how this project is going.

Got the official number back on the rear trunnion, its pricey but its still not out of the ballpark yet!

As for the foldling buttplate we are going to try to machine one instead of stamping it to save time and money. If it is too visually different will will look further into the stamping method.

Next meeting with the machine shop is this week, will keep you guys updated!

Thanks,
Justin

I'm in for one for $250-300. 2 if it's under $250.

Just wanted to give you guys an update after my visit with the machine shop today.

The stock tube and front and rear parts will be press fit then drilled, pinned and ground down, will look cleaner than the all welded factory method and be less labor intensive.

Butt plate will be milled instead of stamped and the hinge will be stonger than the factory spot welded one as it will be all one piece.

Looking at using two different materials and I'm open to recommendations;

C1144 Stress proof non heat treated

4140 Heat Treated

I will try the C1144 first and torture test it, if it holds up Ill go that route.

Unless you had them side by side to compare you wouldn't be able to tell a difference, they will be pretty much visually identical, actually they will probably look better and will be stronger.

Glad to see this is still in the works.... any better idea on price yet? Any significant difference in price or weight with the C1144 vs the 4140?

If I have to have the parts heat treated that will be an additional cost, shipping to and from. The C1144 is a little more expensive I believe but the machinist think it would be strong enough without heat treat and would ultimately be cheaper to produce.

As far as price goes I'm still shooting for the $250 mark, the trunnion and latch alone cost a little under $100 to machine so its going to be tough...

I will be making 50 of these total, I will not start production until I at least have half pre sold. The first 25 will be sold at a Lower price than the next batch.

Appreciate the update!
Your welcome, when I get the first prototype made I will Post pictures and maybe a video of me torture testing it to make sure the materials are suitable.

Estimated 2 weeks to start prototyping if all goes well. You guys will be very pleased with the finished product!
