Spot welding rails

Well, I broke down and bought a spot welder (110 v.) from Hf and got the reconfigured lower arm for it. Thought I was ready to weld my rails in for a new build I am working on, even did some test welds on a couple of thin washers out of curiosity.

I've spent the better part of an hour trying to spot weld them in. I got one in (I think) the other one refuses to be welded. It gets hot but does not the white hot spot for welding. I've stick welded for amost 50 years and mig welded for over 30 yrs. This has been the most frustrating thing I've done in awhile. I am almost ready to get the gas torch out and gas weld them in.

I'll get off my soap box, any suggestions on what's going on here? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Some advice on the HF spot welder. Everyone talks about pressure Did you try this, that, etc. If that sucker don't weld from the start take it back and get another one. The first one I had didn't work at all and I tried everything. I returned it to the store and got another. I've had it over 2 years now and works like a champ. I've read sometimes they have a bad switch and don't produce enough heat where needed. The welder will get hot as hell but not enough at the tongs. Just my 2 cents but that worked for me.

I had the same issue, turned out to be a power problem. House wall socket/plug and system just could`t handle it(to far from elect. box)...I cut off the plug and soldered battery charger clips to the ends and then clipped them directly to the wires coming into the electrical box. Worked like a charm ! but I would`t do it if you`r not familiar with house electric ?
