Replacing front sight block?

I have always hated the full circle front sight on my mak90; I have often thought of grinding off the top, but know it would look like crap...
Is it easy to swap front gas blocks to get a more 'standard' type front sight? Which variants block will work?
thanks.

I'm looking to do the same with mine. I was told go for the Yugo fsb as thye have a bigger diameter hole. I used calipers on my barrels and then found a site that listed dims for the fsb they had for sale. It was either desert fox or aoa I got them from. Haven't done the job yet but thinking about picking up the toth tools to do it at xmas. I'm doing fsb and gas blocks on both rifles. If you do it soon post your results and thoughts. If you don't do it soon I will have a chinese fsb from one of my ak's that has the open type hood if interested.

I don't know about yugo. I know that bulgarian will work and I think polish will work. If I remember correctly you have to change out the gas block to. Wonder why everyone I've talked to charges at least 200.00 for changing these out? Surely it doesn't take that long to do and surely should not be overly complicated for a competant gunsmith?

I just found the youtube video for the toth tool to populate the barrel and seems easy enough just take your time. I would recommend using calipers for sizing your barrel though. I agree with the bulgarian also. I just recall people saying stay away from romainian and such as they are slightly smaller. If it is very close to correct size I would think the blocks could be heated. Anyway I found while looking for replacements different sights gave measurements and the blocks I bought were close if not right on to what was advertised. I'll keep you posted. Wish someone here had the toth tools to rent out. I borrowed/ rented the tools to thread one of my rifles from someone here. I just don't need to have the tools for keeps.

$200 to install? Yea; I've come to distrust some gunsmiths... I usedone to install my side-sight mount and it was so far off (10' at 50y, 50' at 100); he charged me more to fix it and said I was 'too picky' and 'the ak isn't a precision rifle anyway'. Had similar experiences to install a mount on an old 222 bolt action... I'll buy the tools to install myself... Now that I know the block I need... thanks!
If anyone knows a good gunsmith in Shelton, WA - let me know ;-)

I have used Bulgarian sight and gas blocks on my Norincos. I did have to do a little sanding to make installation easier, but they worked. As for removing the old sight block, I had to use a press to get them off. very tight fit. Getting the old ones off were harder than getting the new ones installed.
