Ill take a US barrel AK over a yugo sewer pipe any day of the week.
People keep hating on Americans putting their hands on any AK but what countries are actually still building complete AKs for the US anymore?? Zastava, WBP and Arsenal all have American production factories now. Even the WASRs are still Americanized after they get to our country.

The claim they made is a play on words. So not only do I agree with the posts above but concur.

This from the factory original kits is a false claim. They are not being purchased from Zastava! These are factory made rifles stored outside of Serbia de-milled sent here and we’ll call it re-milled.

It’s called piggybacking the import. Now for barrels. Your choice doesn’t matter unless they are not concentric or poor metallurgical construction. They made non chromed lined as the RC hardness and they are typically more accurate barrels. Besides it a requirement that your rifle be spotless in their military.

More importantly is why they are in the build business now. That’s easy. Zastava probably raised their pricing for new rifles and then their cost to convert them limits their ROI.

Change is money.
Zastava complete factory built rifle exports are currently banned by Serbia.

Parts kits is what ZastavaUSA is going to have to do to survive unless the Serbian ban on Serbian made Zastava rifles and all Serbian made ammo is lifted, again, by SERBIA.

I dont care for Zastavas' guns, but i DO love their ammo.

To each his own. My grandfather always loved the Yugo 59/66 SKS rifles and bought me one for Christmas as a young adult. I was my first ever 7.62x39 rifle. After he passed I inherited his other two Yugo SKs and then purchased an M70 ZPAP. I’ve always loved them. I never had any problems with any Zastava that I’ve owned, but I’m not one of these dedicated collectors that has to have one of every single variant of their models either.

Zastava doesnt have an American production facility. Zastava has an importer that they have a marketing agreement with.

Zastava Arms USA is based in Des Plaines, IL though and all I’m saying is there are no true “imports” anymore. No matter where the building of the rifles begin they always end up in our country to be domesticated to our standards. People act like there’s a way to grab a bunch of foreign AKs and fly them back to our country in private jets undocumented.

Zastava USA just brings in unfurnished Zastava AK's and puts US wood and a US mag on them to meet 922r standards. They are not owned by Zastava Serbia.

The new wood furniture is definitely not as nice or durable as the surplus furniture on my Yugo SKS rifles.

The wood on your SKS would look silly on an AK.
Theyre doing what they have to do to comply with US laws. US shooters seem to want AKM style wood. Whatever. All that stuff is replaceable.
I’ve been looking for a matching surplus furniture set for my ZPAP, but the problem with the surplus butt stocks is they are all mostly serial numbered. I could convert it to an under folder and just change the hand guard but don’t really want to do that. I have the Serbian Red furniture and it doesn’t look that bad for American furniture honestly compared to the shitty wood they put on WASRs and PSAs now.

It’s still the exact same price to buy one of the newer M70AB2 rifles that it costs to buy a used one on Gunbroker, and a greater chance of getting one of Century Arm’s duds then actually getting a newer model with any QC issues at all. Zastava has been making guns for nearly 200 years so I would trust one of these new rifles any day.
These are imported kits with USA parts to complete. To the guy that posted not all of these kits had sewer pipe rusted barrels but that will tell you how those were stored or not cleaned at all.

Im pretty sure that the reason is the import duty not that Serbia has banned these exports to the USA. In consideration that they are trying to align with the West as a Nato country. Most likely tariffs or other production. But eventually it will come to and end as they develop other products and they are doing that now.

Since Zastava is 51% owned by the Serb Govt, its a telling sign that possibly sales slowed here based upon the economy, election, and Zastava USA a private company elected to wait and see approach. These rifles are imported as single stacks and then converted here, and this federalized with USA parts. Bit Bulgaria, Serbia etc do not have manufacturing facilities here. If they did there would not be an issue.

How many unnumbered stocks do you want?

Zastava rifles are not imported as single stack guns. They come in sans wood and get US wood added here. And no its not the duty. Serbia has banned weapons and ammo exports for now because of pressure from the Russians who are finding Serb ammo and guns in Ukraine. .

Is the consensus we like this as an odd ball collector or it is a pass?
Childers receiver should be a positive
Us chrome Ak builder barrel not as good as OB but better than whooped out yugo.

with their original AK’s in Ukraine they are using the Polish Grom in 556 to great success. With a myriad of others to include AR’s. Personally very few Yugoslav/Serb rifles as they have abstained from involvement as they are trying to assimilate into Nato admission. The hang up is them not coming to the table for peace with Kosovo.
