Serbia in NATO? No. Thats laughable. They want EU membership not NATO membership. Serbia is Russias little cousin.
Pk you needs to know what is happening. The Serbian President does want to make a change to the West and they would like admission to Nato. They are friendly with Russia but were never a com bloc country. They are the same people but there is no alignment. And no they are not funding or backing the invasion of Ukraine either. They want to join Nato and are trying to but the unwillingness to have a treaty with Kosovo is the issue. The country has a young leadership that is progressive as the people. I can always ask their Ambassador if he knows you by your name here.

EU not NATO. And yes, PPU ammo and Zastava guns have been purchased by other western countries ( US ) and have been making their way to Ukraine in large numbers. The Russians told the Serbs to stop exporting arms and they have. Not only that but NATO is REALLY unpopular in Serbia after the NATO bombings in 1999.

To each his own. My grandfather always loved the Yugo 59/66 SKS rifles and bought me one for Christmas as a young adult. I was my first ever 7.62x39 rifle. After he passed I inherited his other two Yugo SKs and then purchased an M70 ZPAP. I’ve always loved them. I never had any problems with any Zastava that I’ve owned, but I’m not one of these dedicated collectors that has to have one of every single variant of their models either.
Mack, My M70 ZPAP with the Walnut Furniture, has about 1,500 rds. thru it, not one malfunction, I use US Palm Stainless Steel Latch Cage Magazines. Would I buy another Zastava, ABSOLUTLY.

I’m always happy to hear positive feedback from another proud Zastava owner! It’s mostly just the haters that have never actually shot one themselves. I love my Serbian Red M70 ZPAP also. I got rid of my one and only AKM and chose to keep the Arsenal SAM7 SF and M70 ZPAP because I prefer the heavier built AKs as they are more accurate to shoot and have far less recoil than AKMs. I also have three 59/66 Yugo SKS models as well and they have never given me any problems either! Zastavas have always been good to me.

"Sewer pipe"? WhutchutawkinboutWillis? My Zastava is easily the most accurate AK Ive owned in 40 years of owning and shooting AK's.. it's anything but a sewer pipe..
Same with all of my Yugo SKs with their 50+ years old original barrels. I would trust my life with any of them!

Most of the surplus built guns Ive seen had considerable pitting from wartime use with wartime cleaning regimens, non chromed bores and corrosive ammo. Some were completely unusable. If you have a pap gun that is not a rebuilt parts set gun.

They still want to strengthen
their relationship with the west. Russia was furious so he backed off for now. Politics but they are neutral because the Serbs and the Russians are both Slavic peoples ie Countries but they were never part of the ComBloc countries. Thats all.

They didn't have to be part of the com bloc but they are Slavic and that bond is stronger than you think. If left to its own devices Serbia probably would have been part of the Com Bloc but Yugoslavia was not Serbia by itself. In any case Serbia wants economic ties with he EU not NATO membership but they also want ties with Russia who they still do a huge amount of trade with..

This post doesn’t really have anything to do with what this thread is about but there is info in this thread that is incorrect. Like for example that the Zastava’s ZPAP’s do not come into the USA as single stack. They do come into the USA as single stack receivers but the bolts are double stacks. My first ZPAP Underfolder was a mess. It wouldn’t accept mags as the magwell was cut so bad. To Zastava’s credit, they took care of it and replaced the rifle.

And I have no idea who’s building these M70AB2 kits but Zastava does have some machining capability’s so maybe they are making these? I have no idea who’s building these. They do have gunsmiths there that work on guns when there are problems. On the M70AB2 kit builds it appears the 922r parts are the receiver, the barrel, the slant break, and the Magpul PMag.
Here's a video about what they do for the 922r compliance on the ZPAP’s-

So here what's actually going on. There is a 30% tariff and another 14.7% tariff for category of the item......so Imports are costing 44.7% plus. That doesn't include freight and import broker fees. So they would be priced and probably not sell well. They can get the rifles PAP's new but the tariffs are a killer now for everyone and everything so that is why everything like the Russian Parts Kits are so expensive along with everything else. It has affected all new rifle imports, but since is specific tariff now in place by category there is also additional tariffs on some items made of Aluminum, Steel and Copper! If they didn't get into the parts building business they would be in a business crisis which is always a future possibility. Buy American its easy. Zastava USA now your AR Choice 2026. ;)

I bought one of these Zastava kit builds. I can pick it up on Monday as in my commie state we have to wait 3 days before we can take our gun home.

What I saw on my M70AB2 kit build today it is dated as originally being built in 1990 and the rifle is pretty rough. It’s very cool in my opinion as it has a lot of war character. The two reviews here in this thread, those two guys got really pretty nice parts on their builds.

I’ll post more about this M70 when I can actually bring the AK home.

I finally received my M70AB2 today. It is really pretty cool as it is beat to crap with lots of character. The only complaint I have is the top cover is rusted really bad. I will probably try to clean up the rust some and blue it. Just to clean it up. But otherwise the rifle is pretty cool. I did swap out the handguards for some trench art. I did have to adjust the top cover as it did not fit well at all. It was very loose. Chrome lined barrel.
Top two pics are with the original handguards.
