Zastava Arms is now offering Yugoslavian fully built matching parts surplus M70AB2 AKs for $1000. These are made with the new chrome lined barrels. Price now is actually cheaper than the ZPAP models. I’m sure they won’t last long and stay at this price so here’s your chance to own a piece of Yugoslavian war history!

I haven’t had any problems with my ZPAP barrel, and I own several Yugo SKS rifles with the non chrome lined barrels also. You can buy the Yugo surplus barrels cheap just about anywhere now if you wanted it all original.

You can get the surplus barrels cheap now I’ve seen them going for $50 - $60 and a lot of times it’s NOS. Of course you’ll get the people complaining that “it’s not chrome lined!” and the others complain “it’s not original barrels!” lol. Me personally I would trust any barrel that Zastava makes.

I’d have way more confidence on one of these before I bought a beat up old Century Arms M70 for the same price. Those were hit and miss just like the WASRs with quality defects. I’ve been watching used M70s on Gunbroker for the last year going for $1000 anyway so I’d rather have a warranty and peace of mind with the new models for that kind of money.

The claim they made is a play on words. So not only do I agree with the posts above but concur.

This from the factory original kits is a false claim. They are not being purchased from Zastava! These are factory made rifles stored outside of Serbia de-milled sent here and we’ll call it re-milled.

It’s called piggybacking the import. Now for barrels. Your choice doesn’t matter unless they are not concentric or poor metallurgical construction. They made non chromed lined as the RC hardness and they are typically more accurate barrels. Besides it a requirement that your rifle be spotless in their military.

More importantly is why they are in the build business now. That’s easy. Zastava probably raised their pricing for new rifles and then their cost to convert them limits their ROI.

Change is money.

It’s still the exact same price to buy one of the newer M70AB2 rifles that it costs to buy a used one on Gunbroker, and a greater chance of getting one of Century Arm’s duds then actually getting a newer model with any QC issues at all. Zastava has been making guns for nearly 200 years so I would trust one of these new rifles any day.

People keep hating on Americans putting their hands on any AK but what countries are actually still building complete AKs for the US anymore?? Zastava, WBP and Arsenal all have American production factories now. Even the WASRs are still Americanized after they get to our country.

This post doesn’t really have anything to do with what this thread is about but there is info in this thread that is incorrect. Like for example that the Zastava’s ZPAP’s do not come into the USA as single stack. They do come into the USA as single stack receivers but the bolts are double stacks. My first ZPAP Underfolder was a mess. It wouldn’t accept mags as the magwell was cut so bad. To Zastava’s credit, they took care of it and replaced the rifle.

And I have no idea who’s building these M70AB2 kits but Zastava does have some machining capability’s so maybe they are making these? I have no idea who’s building these. They do have gunsmiths there that work on guns when there are problems. On the M70AB2 kit builds it appears the 922r parts are the receiver, the barrel, the slant break, and the Magpul PMag.
Here's a video about what they do for the 922r compliance on the ZPAP’s-

So here what's actually going on. There is a 30% tariff and another 14.7% tariff for category of the item......so Imports are costing 44.7% plus. That doesn't include freight and import broker fees. So they would be priced and probably not sell well. They can get the rifles PAP's new but the tariffs are a killer now for everyone and everything so that is why everything like the Russian Parts Kits are so expensive along with everything else. It has affected all new rifle imports, but since is specific tariff now in place by category there is also additional tariffs on some items made of Aluminum, Steel and Copper! If they didn't get into the parts building business they would be in a business crisis which is always a future possibility. Buy American its easy. Zastava USA now your AR Choice 2026. ;)

I bought one of these Zastava kit builds. I can pick it up on Monday as in my commie state we have to wait 3 days before we can take our gun home.

What I saw on my M70AB2 kit build today it is dated as originally being built in 1990 and the rifle is pretty rough. It’s very cool in my opinion as it has a lot of war character. The two reviews here in this thread, those two guys got really pretty nice parts on their builds.

I’ll post more about this M70 when I can actually bring the AK home.

I finally received my M70AB2 today. It is really pretty cool as it is beat to crap with lots of character. The only complaint I have is the top cover is rusted really bad. I will probably try to clean up the rust some and blue it. Just to clean it up. But otherwise the rifle is pretty cool. I did swap out the handguards for some trench art. I did have to adjust the top cover as it did not fit well at all. It was very loose. Chrome lined barrel.
Top two pics are with the original handguards.

Some more pictures. I put these trench art handgurds on this rifle. The US parts are the receiver, the barrel, the slant brake, and a Magpul Magazine.

Looks great! That sucks about the dust cover though. I’m sure that Zastava would send you another one if you contacted them. You’ll have to let us know how it shoots then. Where did you get the hand guards at? I’d like to find a matching set with butt stock to replace the Serbian Red furniture on my ZPAP. The surplus wood just looks so much better.

So this is what they are selling for their asking price? First Serbia 🇷🇸 would never inventory any rifles in this condition EVER. 1990 is wartime. Why is the retarder in place? Did you put that in place? Receiver #1, Barrel #1, Magazine #3, Compensator #1 its probably the Piston or trigger group parts? For a total of #7
