I believe the barrel dimensions of a Yugo are completely different from a Romy and most other Ak's as well. So none of the pieces will interchange

nope the yugo is of the ak-47 type,thus larger diameters than the AKM.BUT you can put a romy barrel in the trunnion,provided the receiver is a pinned receiver/trunnion.I also believe that IF it is a threaded receiver you can turn the threads down enough to make a snug press fit with the romy barrel into the trunnion.you can also remove all the stuff from the barrel and turn,if you have access to a lathe,the barrel journals down to fit the romy(AKM) parts,,.it's doable..if ya are looking for the russian look,just find a FSB,bulgy or german,of the ak-47 dimensions and put that on and redo the wood.I know you will have the three slots in the wood or make some custom wood for it.or you can leave it as is.I know it's a lotta if's and or's.LOL

 

Virtually nothing interchanges between a Yugo and a euro AKM. The bolt and carrier and opiston and trigger group are about. With a lathe, and millwork you can make anything "work". I do not think the Russians made a AK pistol. :dance:

 

i put in a complete romy g front end into a m70 stub.

 

Whole romy frontend in the stub does seem to be the easiest way. I have one, but its pretty rusty. I guess I will just stick to the original plan and use the Yugo stuff.

Ok so if you put the romy frontend in, the gas block is now what a half inch forward, so is the top cover longer on all the other AKs?

 

If you want to go Romy, sell the Yguo kit and buy a Romy. the Yugo kits are worth more thant the Romy ones...

 

I know I keep saying romy, its just because its parts are pretty common and interchangeable. I want a milled receiver with a fixed stock, and regular ak furniture.

I know its not the easy route by any means, but I enjoy the welding and building.

I have not seen any milled fixed stock non yugo kits for sale, if anyone has a lead on one let me know

buy a milled receiver from dph arms and build it on a romy kit. then reweld your yugo as a yugo

 

The Romy rear sight block is .865 wide. It slots tightly into the top of the front trunnion. However, the Yugo trunnion (for a stamped Yugo) is .950 wide.

If the heights are the same, you could probably do it if you made sure you kept the RSB lined up vertically.

 

Ok I am resolved now I am going to make this happen. Its not going to be easy but I can do it! I also picked up a used HF lathe mill drill combo for cheap, so I can turn and machine stuff now. Its not just for this project I have always wanted one anyway.

Obiwanbonjovi, I am too cheap for the DPH arms receiver, and I like the welding/machining. For the cost of the reciever, say $300 shipped, transfer fees of $50 and $25 CA DROS(background check I think) I have purchased a M70 folder kit, rear stamped trunion to weld in and have enough money left over to buy a repro russian stock set.


TRX, Thats another problem I had not considered. :sad:

Do all the AKs have the wider rear sight block like the yugo? And is it just the romy/AKMs that are the narrower width? And along with that do the repro russian stock sets fit the wider sight block or are they made to fit the AKM.

Turbo, when you put that romy front end in for will36 what did you do to fill the gap since the romy sight block is narrower than the yugo sight block? Then did you machine back the top left of the reciever to make the cover fit?

Ok I think I have this figured out.

Yugo sight block slid forward 1/2 inch or whatever it is. Will have to add material to right side of block, but this maintains proper width.

Barrel, original lower handguard retaining groove filled and new one cut back where it should be, Also material added at rear for moving the slight block forward

Yugo gas block, grenade sight removed, holes filled ground flat.

Yugo gas tube, shortened, and handguard retaining ring slid back.

This will maintain an AK barrel profile/look to boot. Should all only take a couple of hours :twisted:
