I have seen a picture of a Russian AKMS underfolder that had a standard AKM scope rail mounted. The left stock strut had a serious dogleg in it to clear the rail.

I did some searching but was unable to locate one of these stocks.

Thought the pic was on Tantal's site, but can't find it right now. It's a grainy photo of the rifle with the stock extended propped up against a tree (or something).

EDIT: Found it! http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/opticsap.html

Go down to AKMSN with optics rail.

AKMSN with optics rail

This is the AKMSN/AKMSL rail, a version of the AKMN rail redesigned to fit the receiver of the AKMS folding stock rifle. The primary differences include the deletion of part of the rear section of the mounting base, and the more central location of the plate. The pivot pin clearance scallops have been repositioned due to the plate location on the receiver. The left side folding stock strut arm is specially modified on these rifles. First, it is slotted for clearance at the section just above the plate when the stock is folded. Also note that the left side strut has a larger angle bend at it's folding pivot point (and also at the baseplate just behind the end of the slot). This forms a rather large bulge on the left strut arm. The combination of the slot and the extra bends in the strut allows the assembly to clear the thick two-piece rail when folded.
If I had a couple of cheap stock struts and didn't mind cutting them up I might be tempted to fabricate a dogleg left strut.

Im looking for something that would still enable the underfolder to be able to close with the optics still attached, not just something that you would be just be able to close with the optics off. I wish that we could see the rear of the frame in the original pic I posted. Then we would be able to see how the rear of that beryl style rail attches to the rear of the receiver.

There's a mount called the Yugoslav M-77 that extends the clamping area above the folded stock leg. In an earlier thread in this forum a poster writes: "The M-77 rail is mount specific... it will only take an M-77 type mount."

I googled this: http://www.p-a-distributing.com/m76mounts.html

Looks to me like the scope is going to be way up there unless the mount is shorter than standard.
