Just a quick ?
Are there any sources for chinese ak receivers? Have not had any luck finding any.
Thanks

The idea of building AKMs at home is fairly new, and since importation of Chinese AK variants, parts and ammo was banned nearly 20 years ago, you stand a better chance of winning the lottery than finding a Chinese receiver.

About your only hope is someone destroyed a barrel and trunion for what ever reason, and the receiver is still in good condition, and they are willing to part with it.

Good luck!

I know they have the 1.6mm rec originaly but are the trunions that much different than...say a romy or polish receiver? or Yugo?
Thanks for the help.
Well the Chinese trunnion will be too narrow to fit in a 1mm receiver. Plus the barrel journal is 19mm vs. 23mm for just about everything else. Not to mention the rivet pattern is different

Rivet hole pattern for the Chinese front trunion is different than the hole pattern in a Euro AKM front trunion.
Watch out for AUSA 1.6mm thick receivers that have the serial number marking on the right side. The Chinese front trunion rivet hole pattern may fall in the same location as the serial number marking. Defacing a serial number is not allowed.

It's hard to find cheap MAK-90s anymore, but keep your eyes open for an abused one that you might be able to snatch up for a good price and cannibalize the receiver from. Much better than a Global Trades 1.5 mm or one of those rough as a cob 80% things.

I parted this one out a couple years ago because it looked as if someone had used the barrel as a pry bar and had bent it badly enough that I didn't want to mess with it.

The MAK-90 buttstock and the ban-era barrel components are worthless, IMO, but you can sell the other parts to help defray the cost.

Just out of curiosity ,it wouldn't matter that the trunnion is a different serial number than the reciever, since the receiver is considered the firearm?
Thats how I interpet it-would the atf also?
Or is the Mak 90s serialized diferently?
If the receiver came in the country as a complete rifle or with the trunnion installed then chances are the serial is on the trunnion and not on the receiver. In this case you CANNOT remove the receiver from the trunnion without torching it first. But that would defeat the purpose of your build
