The 7.62 is lighter and faster, bottle necked and has light armor piercing capability and cheap these days. The 9mm para is a proven round with high velocity, effective stopping power and square necked. What else are some of the comparisons of the 2 calibers?

If I want to match the small, light weight bullet at high velocity of the 7.62x25, I can "step down" and load my pistol with the Corbon 90 gr. JHP @ 1500 fps.
If I want a heavier bullet at high velocity and much greater K.E., I can load any of the +P or +P+ loads commonly available for the 9x19 and have it that way, too.
Further, the 9x19 has a greater cross-sectional area and higher sectional density than the 7.62x25 in the 115, 124/127 and 147 grain offerings and I don't have to worry about corrosive ammo either.

The only thing more important than hitting your target is having the gun with you to begin with. There is a much larger variety of 9mm pistols available than 7.62x25 pistols. This larger variety means that you can choose a pistol that suits your carry needs best. If you really want a high velocity bullet, perhaps you should consider the 357Sig. It kind of has the best of both cartridges.
Tokarev Ammo and Penetration Tests
I live in Bear Country and we have the occasional nuisance bear (Black Bear and Grizzly). Due to the thick skin and thick skull on a bear I need penetration more than expansion. That said, there are 7.62x25 hollow points (Wolf Gold) and fragmentation rounds (Mag Safe) available.

That said, When not carrying a Glock 26 or 19, I find myself carrying a small P-64 as my BUG (pocket gun) and a CZ-82 or German Makarov with 9x18mm Hornady XTP rounds (especially now that it's summer). 1000 feet per second with 211 foot/pounds of energy.

It might have velocity on its side, but i'd rather take a proven 9mm JHP (Gold Dot, HST) over a round which has plenty of velocity to spare, but isn't very proven or researched to the extent the 9mm has.
If I go into a gunstore and ask for 7.62x25mm I get blank stares, and sometimes I get offered "nagant ammo". Nobody loads a decent defensive round in 7.62x25mm, and even if they did it wouldn't likely be as good as most 9mms. Also, very few guns are chambered in 7.62x25. but it is cheap.
i love my Romy TTC! but it wouldnt be my first choice for self defence. the 7.62 TOK round is powerfull but tends to make a small hole. if your looking for self defence 9mm is better. however if your looking for something cheap to buy and cheap to shoot, along with being tons of fun to shoot then a TTC, TT-33, and CZ-52 are perfect.
