Here is a couple shots of my Wellco underfolder with an Aimpoint Micro T-1 mounted on an Ultimak rail. It makes for a fast and compact gun. The iron sights co-witness nicely in the bottom third of the Micro. I have some trouble seeing those tiny, dark little ak sights, so this worked out perfect.

 Now THAT is exactly the rifle I had pictured in my mind to build ! Thanks for posting yours. Now I know what is needed to make it a reality. Awesome rifle, and as 5thShock said, looks perfectly balanced. Does it feel as good as it looks ?

The balance is well preserved, although, being a folder, this gun always felt a little front heavy anyway. I have a full size Aimpoint, and that DID feel a bit too heavy. That Micro is really liteweight.

As far as heat goes, I've only fired about 300-350 rounds in this set up, with some of that rapid fire. No issues. I think Aimpoints can take it.

The Micro and your placement of it makes the rifle look like its balance has not been destroyed by too much too far forward. Does it handle as good as it looks?
I have the same set-up on my 106FR. Balance isn't changed. The difference in weight between the UltiMAK/Micro combo and the standard upper handguard/gas tube is truly negligible. As light as the Micro is (less than 4 ounces) you could mount it farther forward should you so choose and not have an impact on balance. I found the farthest rear mounting position most convenient because it keeps the optic away from my sling's D-ring (I cannabalized a Bulgarian sling to get the ring and clip for my VCAS), and it gives me room to mount my white light.

ETA: Heat is a non-issue. I've had the weapon hot enough to start cooking the finish off the barrel and gas block and the Aimpoint doesn't seem to care. It did get a little warm, but that was about it.
