Almost looks like it was designed to be a jump case.
Any padding to it?

 

Couldn't say for sure, but it does look like the same material/design as the Hungarian mag case I have!

 

One of our oldest members, PRDUBI, was a paratrooper in the Hungarian army and he's said that he never saw a dedicated jump case for an AK/AMD. The weapons were either jumped exposed, tucked into the harness, or bundled in cases and dropped in groups.

Armies have a lot of field gear and they need lots of cases and bags. The pictured item could be for a segmented antenna, tentage, tools, NBC gear, etc. would be cool if it is something sexy like a weapons case, though.

 

That case looks to be for the PKM tripod and other accessories.

I have a saved picture of the Hungarian PKM parts kits from years before and that looks like the same case. The tripod legs are folded up and boom the whole she-bang goes right into the top.
