Hungarian AMP 69 that i decided to do a thread on as the project goes along with some info included.. Just have to get a receiver and have it rebuilt with a AMD bolt and bolt carrier. I have the early AMP grip and the correct AMP recoil guide rod assembly now, just did not have them at the time of these pics. It has a original barrel and the trunnion, gas tube, and sleeve all match so im assuming the whole front end matches. The top cover, bolt, bolt carrier, and scope do not match.. I plan on having it rebuilt on a more authentic receiver with correct selector markings cause i want it to be as authentic as possible.

As many know but for the ones who may not, The AMP 69 was a very unique variant that was primarily designed for launching grenades. It was a odd design that incorporated a spring shock in the butt of the stock for reduced recoil. It also incorporated springs in the large hand guard that allows it to move forward and spring back to its normal position.. They are fairly rare "at least in the states" and never really seamed to have caught on cause they were never issued in mass numbers. I have heard a 1000 were made and i have also heard a few thousand were made, my serial number falls in the 2*** range so im assuming more then 2000 were made at least. Also there were some minor changes through out its production.

I will add some more pics through the thread with some basic descriptions as i go. If others have more info and pics please do add along. Im curious to learn more as well.

The bottom of the handguard has slots cut out to help cool the barrel, also the cut out on the right side (bottom) is there to close the stock all the way in order for it to lock. Note you can see the large hole on the gas valve to use a round to help turn it. You can also see the springs inside through the front slots, which allow the handguard to move back and forth to help reduce recoil when launching grenades.

Here you can see the large triangular shaped handguard and the unique hand guard retainer. Also the large opening on the gas block for the cleaning rod and sling to attach. Also i think the triangular shape and movement in the handguard is to help counter recoil so it moves when firing, making it easier to control and not slip out of your hands.

It is very hard to get a good pic of the scopes reticle. Which is why my next pic is a little drawing of what its like and how it works looking through the scope. Note the bottom of these scopes is purposely foggy and not clear, you move the edge of the foggy part to line up your horizon and target... It is very awkward and im pretty sure you are to use your left eye.

As i said some changes were made during its production. Here is a pic of a AMP showing the use of a AMD grip which could be found on later models. Early models used a unique grip found only on the AMP. I will post pics of the grip tomorrow, also i have another version of the hand guard which is more of a plastic/bakelite material.

This is the correct recoil guide assembly found only on the AMP variant, other countries such as Poland and Yugoslavia who used a grenade launching variant also incorporated a device to keep the dust cover from coming off. The lever prevents the dust cover/top cover from coming off in the field. When launching grenades, there is a lot more recoil then shooting standard ammunition that can cause the dust cover to pop off when launching grenades. Which is why you sometimes see in videos from conflicts the dust cover off of the gun, many times there is a grenade launcher mounted on the AK which is why its off.

Right side of the grip! The ledge that rests above your thumb and trigger finger is designed for right hand shooters.. For looks, cool factor, and collector reasons, i like the AMP grip more. But i actually would prefer the AMD grip, it just feels more comfortable and feels like it would have more control for the harsh recoil of grenades over the AMP grip. So i could see why they stopped using them if they did in fact stop issuing them with the AMP grip.
