I was at my local gun shop to pick up a transfer, and this rifle was on the wall. I wasn't looking for one, but I couldn't leave it behind.

Truly excellent AK's. I've seen a few threads lately where guys who want a milled AK are asking what to buy and, short of building your own custom rifle, I think tracking one of these down is the best option.

Image

Gordon Tech was one of several companies that assembled these, and they are widely considered to have made the "best" SLR-100H's.

Image

They built most of these with Hungarian parts sets and all of them used Bulgarian milled receivers left over from the Arsenal USA K-101 project. I think the pistol grip on my rifle is Bulgarian, but all the other parts are Hungarian. The receivers had a gray phosphate coating from the factory, but G-Tech used dark gray for their builds.

G-Tech marked the barrels on their builds with a "G" to indicate that it had gone through their proof-load firing test.

I have several Hungarian AK-47 parts sets, and none of them have the rifle's serial number stamped onto the barrel itself, so I presume that G-Tech stamped these. It matches the serial numbers on the accompanying Hungarian parts set.

The barrel was originally threaded into the Hungarian receiver, while the Bulgarian receiver is press-and-pin. Perhaps this added serial was meant to help reunite the barrel with the other parts after the lathe work to turn the threads off was performed.

The 922r compliance parts are the gas piston and the FCG. The FCG was made by FSE.

The piston in my rifle isn't marked and I don't recognize it. Does anyone know which manufacturer made it?

These were assembled during the "Ban", so muzzle threads and bayonet lugs were forbidden. The muzzle nut was permanently affixed with a spot of weld, and the two prongs that an AK-47 bayonet locks onto were ground down. It would be about 20 minutes of work to reverse these, but I might just leave them since the work was done neatly.

Anybody else love their SLR-100H's?

NICE FIND!!

Back in 2000, I was thumbing through a SGN and saw the Tenessee Guns ad for the SLR 100H and instantly fell in love with it. I called all of my local shops and no one had one, or knew what the hell I was asking for.

So, I took the ad with me to one of the shops and pointed to the ad and said "this is what I want right here". The guy looked puzzled/excited and told me he would get one for me. Well, I get the call to pick it up about 2 weeks later and the dude had ordered about 15 of 'em. I paid $549.00 OTD and looking back on it, I wish I would have bought a few more.

This was the AK that started it all for me. It is by far my favorite that I own.

So as far as a timeline goes, were these produced after or before the k101/ssr99's that g-tech produced? I have a k101 and I think its one of the arsenal in house builds that was done after g-tech did the first batch, but I've got to check again because I didnt know the g stamp was there right next to the trunion.

I don't know if you've seen this post, but one of our members, Nalioth, posted an excellent article on the K-101 project that gives detail about the G mark:

http://www.theakforum.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=43381&highlight=k101

If I'm understanding it correctly, the 7.62 SLR-100H rifles all came after K-101 production stopped. These receivers were all originally made to feed 5.56mm, so some minor modifications were made so they could be used with 7.62.

Aside from rifle production, many were released for sale as virgin receivers. I remember them being sold (at Centerfire?) for $99 each!

I wish I had bought a dozen, because I paid quite a bit more than that last year when I bought the stripped receiver in the picture, above.

I have a Gordon Tech & Blue Ridge both I found them both at pawnshops for 500.00 each. My Gordon Tech has the G and came with Polish furniture. Both are equal in quality builds. The Blue Ridge has the import stamp on the opposite side of the receiver from the same importer.

Richard W.

If you decide to rid yourself of that fine rifle I'd be interested! I've been looking for a nice milled rifle and that would be a great one to have! I want to say the guy at the Pat Rogers AK class I went to was shooting one of those.

Keep an eye on consignment racks at your local gunstore and pawn shops.

I'll bet there are many, many out there that have been sitting in closets and under beds.

BTW- I Dremeled the weld off of the muzzle nut yesterday. I decided that I want to replace the FSB, after all.

I've never thought about this before because I've stuck with stamped guns... What is the parts break down for a milled gun with respect to 922 rules?

Spookt
Not sure, but congratulations on your new 100H

Were you in that fray? I did get it - probably more than the OP paid for his but that is one I wanted and you really don't seen them often. I'll be selling some kits and stuff to make up for it (Hungarian milled and a Romanian 40 round 5.45 mag at least).

Now to figure out the legal aspects of a milled gun!

Man thats more than I paid for my K101 about 6 months ago, but sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and just buy it cuz you like it, I just paid $675 for an unconverted saiga 12, way over the value but way worth it.
