Well, I finally did it...I bought a 5.56 AK. I've thinned out my 5.45 rifles, and I figured since I'm already hardcore into getting Romanian AKs why not a WASR 3, or SAR 3 for a 5.56.
Well, I found a SAR 3, brought it home and promptly put a set of AIMS 74 furniture on it along with one of the many Romy Bakelite grips I have. Though, I'll be taking the stock and handguard back off as the finish is peeling on them and I'd like to strip and refinish them.
It looks like the previous owner fixed the hammer so it strikes the bolt cleanly, so, I'm good to go there. Magazine wise, I'm not certain yet. So far I did a quick function test and put 5 rounds through each of the 5.56 AK mags I have and amazingly all of them cycled just fine so far, but, I need to make sure a full 30 rounds will feed properly through each mag.
