I'm looking at a gun locally, I haven't gotten to see it in person yet, just pictures. It appears to have an ak74 akm length retainer on a AKS74u rear with krinkov cover. It has the folding triangle brace with a long front. It's like a front stretch. Have you guys seen anything like this? He has a bolt picture and a few gun pictures. I just wonder if this thing is even worth messing with, as far as putting the retainer further back and pressing the combo block back, if it can be done....journal wise. Not sure of the twist or barrel make either.

I've written the dude looking for the builder and receiver but have yet to hear back. It's probably an 1.5 hours away so I can't just take a peak at it conveniently. Thoughts?

It's a Krinkov with a longer front end, I don't think I've ever seen that, but it doesn't mean it's not a real thing or is just some custom job someone did?
Have you ever seen a Krinkov with an AK74 length handguard front end? The barrel looks a couple inches longer than a krink too. The space between the handguard and combo block it too much..
Is it worth shortening it to the right length? Pressing the combo block further back to the correct length and notching the barrel for the retainer.

I'm just wondering if this is a real configuration or something they just made up. Or is this just a short 74 with combo block and a krink style dust cover?

Referencing Mr Rob Stott series of most excellent books on AK variants the Bulgarians made a similar weapon but not the same.

This would fall into the Khyber catergory although with the under 16” barrel it would have NFA complications in the land of shall not be infringed upon.

If you can touch it that means its real.

Thoughts?
I think you should buy it, and send it to me.
I'll give it a loving home and not call it nasty names.
Poor thing. Owned previously by someone w/more money than sense. Well, that is, until they bought all that BS, put it on that poor gun. Then, when it was too front heavy to handle, couldn't get/keep it zeroed, they discarded it at the pawn shop, like a Xmas puppy, to get the $$ to pay the credit card minimum.
The "any bolt will do" BS is an indicator of poor ownership. I'm gonna guess the current crew did that to make it appear whole.
Lots of 5.45/5.56 stuff use proprietary bolts/firing pins that don't have ready spares. Many are out there w/o the bolts, for what ever reason. One would think they'd be for sale somewhere.???
Started as a pistol build, morphed into a back door SBR, freaked out at the idea of NFR violation, got rid of the ungainly unit.
Now, a project for an industrious lad, such as yourself.
Buy it!
Good luck
Have fun
Be safe
