I'm just looking at buying my first AK and in the process of researching it, I found that the Yugoslavian mags hold the bolt open after the last round... and they are the only ones that do this from what I can see. How come people making new magazines don't follow this design? Is there some other problem inherit in it that I'm not finding? Cuz if it's everything it says it is, I'll just save up and by all Yugo mags...

Okay, that changes things. I assumed the bolt stayed open even after mag removal. Is there a way to make an AK do this??

Never tried one so I don't know how well they work. The way I gather it
If you use Yugo bolt hold open mags it will lock the bolt back after the last
round has been fired. Regular mags will not hold the bolt open after the
last round had been fired but will allow you to lock the bolt back manually.

The SWIFT lever + Yugo mags is supposed to be an excellent combo.

Basically, the bolt is stuck back because you have no more ammo. You flip the selector lever up while moving the charging handle back some, which holds the bolt back and keeps the safety on while you change mags. Put the new mag in, and then just lower the safety lever and you are ready to go.
