Revisiting this proposed list of types I posted previously. Trying to match up "Cyrillic" mags by type and consolidate some other info.
Pre-production/Proto:
'Type -1': mag body is 100% AG4C, including front/rear lugs. Distinctive short front hump (Izhevsk)
'Type 0': AG4C rear lug. Short front hump (Izhevsk)
Production AG4 Mags: (begins in 1963)
Long-tops:
Type 1: identical to Type 0, but with a steel rear lug (Izhevsk)
Type 2: front hump extended down to what becomes the norm (Izhevsk)
Type 3: 4 indentations on front of mag added (holds reinforcement 'strap' during the molding process, flat top of hump (Izhevsk)
Type 4: idents move down, smooth top of hump transition (Izhevsk) (experimental green version of this mag has been seen, and is known to have been produced in 1964)
Type 5: transition between hump and mag sides smoothed (Izhevsk)
Type 6: very similar to Type 3, but with indents closer together. (Tula) Some of these mags have a 'sideways' mold number. Also, an experimental dark brown version of this form factor has been seen.
Short-tops:
Type 7: like Type 5, but "short top" (spine, no steel lips) (Izhevsk & Tula)
Type 8: Type 7 but with steel reinforced lips (Izhevsk & Tula)
Type 9: Type 7 but flat back (Izhevsk & Tula)
Type 10: Type 9 with steel reinforced lips (starting point for 545 proto bakes, BTW) (Izhevsk & Tula)
Type 11: Final form factor for 7.62x39mm AG4 mags, production started in 1974 = flat back, steel lips, smooth transition at bottom of hump. (Inspiration for first production 545 bakes, only difference being related to cartridge geometry.) (Izhevsk & Tula) *also seen in the green border guard color in this form factor
Type 12: Type 11 made from AG-4B (marked "TsT"?). *also seen in the green border guard color in this form factor / material
@TomM
Hey buddy. I need to expand this list to fit in the 'chicom style micromesh feedlips' variant you posted pics of above and I've seen on the 'rare mag thread'. Any chance we could see pics of what the rest of the mag with the funky non-steel reinforcement looks like? I'm guessing it's a Type "7.5" or "9.5", but the form factor will tells us for sure.
Cyrillics (very preliminary info here, just starting the research)...
ЦТ (prefix) - Izhevsk Type 11 (Podgornov & TFB article. Also seen on GB, UT17, UT18 and a personal example)
А (suffix) - Tula Type 7 (personal sample & TFB article. Type 7 Tula, 45A seen on GB, and 31A & 40A seen on AKForum. Type 8 seen on GB, mold 34A)
В (suffix) - Tula Type 9, 10, 11 (Podgornov, doesn't specify if the 9/10 includes both the no steel Type 9 AND the steel reinforced feedlip Type 10...could be one, the other, or both. TFB article just says flat back, which describes type 9, 10, and 11. Type 10 Tulas seen with molds 18B
, 30B, 33B, 56B, and 61B on GB and some on Reddit as well. Type 11 Tulas .seen on AKForum, 56B and 67B)
П (suffix) - Tula Type 7/8 (Podgornov, doesn't clarify if it's one/other/both. TFB article also says this letter was used on Type 11 Izhevsk mags. Type 10 Izhevsk seen on both GB and Reddit.
Л (suffix) - Tula Type 7/8 (Podgornov, doesn't clarify if it's one/other/both)
