I beleive X-box360 goes only to 1080i...but you know I have not tried using HDMI cables so it may go to 1080p

The difference on a 40" is minimal to me at least on a PS3 with HDMI. There is a difference but its hard to notice unless you really are paying attention and looking for it. I have done a comparison with GTA4 and MGS4 but I did notice a pretty big differnce in MGS4 since the level of detail in the game is huge and they have alot of close ups of different character's faces in the cut scenes.
Thanks EXP,

I think I might go with a 720p set as they are $500+ cheaper than the 1080p.

1080p is significantly better than 720p. XBOX360 allows you to utilize your TV’s 1080p capability. Most PS3 games can't be played in 1080p, which is why I traded it for a 360. I have a 42'' Sharp Aquos LCD TV. Playing games on my 360 w/HDMI is very fun, especially games like Call of Duty 4.

Stick to 1080p.

There is a HUGE difference between 720p and 1080p, it is double the resolution. 480i x2=720p x2= 1080p.

There is also a huge and noticeable difference between using the component cables that come with all the non elite xbox and using an HDMI cable.
ahh, so it does sound worth it to go the 1080p route. I think I will wait until superbowl and see if I can get a better deal on a 1080p than what is currently offered.

Thanks guys!

Super Bowl is always prime television buying time. In my opinion, always buy the current or newest technology available, not something that is already outdated before you even take it out of the box. Ya' know?

Oh definatley buy a 1080p TV. If you are just generally screwing around playing video games its not a big difference but since you are buying a new TV 1080i/1080p is becoming the standard especially for movies.

Did not mean to stear you in making the wrong purchase.

+1

If this is just a gaming/guest room TV, then maybe go with the more affordable 720p, especially if you're on a 'not so flexible' budget.

If it's your main TV, then stick to 1080p. If you go to Best Buy, they usually display all their TV's on one huge wall, where you get the chance to see the difference between the 720p's, 1080i's and 1080p TV's. I'd go there and see the difference for yourself before you commit your hard-earned money.

You may decide that you want ALL your TV’s to be 1080p. That's how they got me.

I know. I was a little mad sitting with a brand new PS3, and spending nearly 2k on a new 1080p TV only to find out that the PS3 wasn't even utilizing the TV's capability.

Most 360 games can be played in 1080p. However, you're right. You do need a larger TV to incorporate more resolution. I have a 42'' and games look excellent on 1080p w/ HDMI cord.

On the PS3 on some games you have to force it to play in 1080p mode. Like in GTA4 you have to set on the PS3 menu that the only display mode is to be 1080p otherwise GTA4 will start in 720p by default. It is annoying.

Yeah, I remember I had to do that. But if you look on the back of your PS3 games, you won't see 1080p on most, only 1080i. I never knew that until the kid at the video game store told me most PS3 games aren't even available in 1080p, even though the system supports 1080p. It's so ridiculous, but that's just Sony for ya'.

If PS3 games were available in 1080p, I'd still have my PS3. I really liked it, aside from the total lack of games for PS3. At least they had all the popular sports games I play.

That's nice, just a little more the the 32" I was looking at. Thanks for the link.
We have a 32" RCA LCD HDTV... We just got a XBox 360 a couple of weeks ago and was playing Halo 3 for a couple of days and then my son said we could set it up for HD. We made the change and the difference in quality is amazing. We're just using the standard video cables that came with it. What other cables are there to choose from?
G
Sharp Aquos LCD is an amazing TV. I bought mine about 6 months ago and you can't get much better. Run HDTV/gaming with an HDMI cable and you'll see. Good choice. When it's time for a new TV, I'm getting another Sharp.
