I had Troy at InRange build me up a 1986 G kit w/ a GT receiver serial#ed to the kit. Receiver has the Romy selector markings. Wood is standard laminated with flat sided lower HG. Romy brown PG.

The action is a little stiff being new, nothing 8-10 mags downrange won't cure. Everyone needs at least one Romy AKM in their collection.

I believe the finish is flat black moly. I'll try to get up a link to a couple pics later today.

ive never fired any AK's other then romys, ive held almost every other AK though, and played with the actions, but for cheapness, extreme reliablity, and value, the romy is definately the one.

"G" kit build hands down...

"G" kit = Genuine military AK parts

SAR-1 & WASR-10 = Made for commercial sales...quality isn't as nice.

Don't believe me?

Example: Compare the receiver cover for each one side-by-side sometime...the "G" kit receiver cover will be noticeably thicker...and better formed.

Seriously, if you compare a SAR-1/WASR-10 and a "G" kit to each other, you'll see that the "G" kit is the "real deal".

Between the three choices you mentioned (there are other Romanian choices) I would definitely go for my own built "G" kit. As a matter of fact, I have................

My 2002 SAR-1 is my favorite 7.62. Now I have threaded the muzzle, added a slant brake, added Polish laminate furniture, a G2 fire control group, and refinished in flat black Molyresin, but it was a great rifle before I started the "pimp my ride" routine.

I have a Romy G kit in a drawer just waiting for a rainy day.

I had a local gunsmith build me a Romy G kit, and it is a LOT better than a WASR.

Everything from the kit to receiver to compliance parts to labor totalled up to $375 OTD. He didn't refinish the kit and it didn't come with accessories or a mag,, but the price to get a WASR transferred would have been $380 and the rifle has much better construction and a lifetime warranty to boot.

[ETA] My Romy G kit has an optics rail, I lucked out and found on on the EE for $10 shipped(!) so I had it installed when the rifle was built.
