The whole gas port in the groove thing is something dreamed up by some armchair warrior!
I have built over 400 AKs and I have probably seen more that are at least in the lands then not.
It is certainly obvious from personal experience that the the Yugoslavians, Russians, Pols, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Egyptians and Romanians didn't care.
Even the "proper twist rate" thing is highly over exaggerated.
I built quite a few AKS-74U rifles using cut down East German and Bulgarian barrels before Bluejack and none of them had any keyhole issues.
I dont understand why you wrote this message, I didnt care if it was in a land or grove I just want a barrel.. I was thinkibg about using a cut down bukgy barrel but I hear so much back and forth about keyholeing I dont know what to think. If it didnt keyhole and could hit a piece of paper at 50 yards id put in a cut down. ..
