I went to a Museum in Wichita,Ks and they had some good military displays to view. One item that caught my attention was a display of US Navy SEALs and gear. One had what looked like a standard M16 bayonet with a knuckle guard attached. Does anyone know if this is an GI issue or custom made item? Thanks.

From what I've always heard and read of these, they were shotgun news specials put together for the collectors market back in the 80's.

Well, it certainly looks like some fantasy piece out of the BUDK catalog.

The page I linked references Cole's books, volume IV, p. 110. Does anyone have access to a copy to see what he says?
