Thought you guys would like to see the most beautiful weapon ever made again. I have an assload more pics on my other computer I'll try to get on here at some point.

This gun has been my dream weapon since I left Afghanistan without my baby, a 1948/1949. I am one step closer with the aquisition of the grip panels from wildman.

Strip it for parts and bring them home.
At least get the grips, top cover, gas tube and bolt/carrier.
The wood is not original.

He is already home - he said he left her behind in Afghanistan.

The wood was original. It was serialized to the gun.

The paperwork was being done to save this one when I left Astan.

Yes, Type I.

MFG between 1948-1951/52. Then the Type II which is all milled, although Isevhsk built Type I's and Type II's side by side for about a year or two. The Type II is all milled. The Type III, which is what most of us think of as "the" AK-47, came out around 1952/53 and was manufactured up unti labout 1959/60 in Russia.

Link and pic of a Type II, with a PBS on it.

If I were you I would have got everything but the reciever shipped back to the states, then stick to US made mags just so it could be as original as possible... or build it on a pre-89 reciever.
