Trade NIB unfired Kimber SVD for a NIB Sig 550?

After seeing the Guns you regret not buying thread, I'm thinking about unloading one of the Kimbers for something I should have bought long ago. I'd rather have a 551 than a 550, but they're even harder to find. Either of those two seem rarer than a SVD in the various for-sale/auction sites. No one ever lets go of them, while Dragunovs pop up around every two months on GB alone.

At the risk of bringing the fury of the sig owners upon me... I'm going to recommend you keep the SVD, buy a SIG 556 and unscrew the damage done by SIG Sauer USA.

Honestly, you wouldn't be paying too much more for a 556 than most high speed AR's, and the 556 is going to be about 95%+ the same thing as a 551. Mechanically, it's a SIG barreled action all the way. The only things different about it is the el-cheapo backup sights, godawful furniture and the ability to take AR mags (and this can only be viewed as a plus). I had everything on my 556 looking like a 551 except the front sight and if there were no markings, the collectors I showed it to would have sworn it was some sort of prototype mailed from Switzerland.

First impressions are real important.

Total investment, you'd be looking at $1,800 - $2,000 for an unfarked 556, and the AR pmags are much easier on the wallet. I'll have mine in a week or two and take some nice pictures. $1,300 for the rifle, $500-800 for the parts.

If you want to collect a 551, then there's no substitute for that rifle. If you want to shoot a 551, the 556 route is better.

Where are you getting your 556 "unfarked" ?
I'll be honest, the 556 is an ak in basic operation. An overpriced ak. so the return spring is moved onto the gas piston (where it is exposed to HEAT), the trigger is ok but only ok, what are you getting that is so fabulous. If you want it for the cool factor, ok but other than that, why?
I would love to know where you are seeing all these SVDs pop up. Not counting the one in my safe, there are only 100 of these legally in the US. I think I have seen only 3 come up for sale in the last 2 years. The last one sold for over $9k. I don't believe a 550 or 551 is anywhere close to that range so probably not a good trade on your part.

I have never heard of a Kimber SVD (and nothing came up via a google search and I believe the K in KBI stands for Kassnar, not Kimber) so perhaps you just mis-typed the header and are referring to something else entirely. If so, please disregard. If you do have a pre-1994 Kimber imported SVD, PLEASE post pictures. I am sure that there are other Dragunov collectors such as myself that would quickly send offers your way for such an ultra-rare firearm.

MIGHT YOU BE LOOKING FOR SOME OTHER, PRE-89, NIB ITEMS THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO TRADE???

Kisara is on the other side of the pond with more firearms freedom than we have.

The Checzk Republic should have a 4th of July!
