Would a smooth, but flared over the safety top cover be correct on any year of an RPK in 7.62x39, or were they all AK-47 style?

Same question but vice versa - would a smooth, non flared top cover be correct for any year on an RPK-74?

Thanks,
Alex

Sorry I mean for Soviet RPKs. And I know they all use smooth tops, but I'm referring to the flare above the safety lever. Just like the difference between AK-47 and AK-74M top covers.

I can't truthfully say on the RPK. I have noticed that smooth topcovers without the flare generally won't work unless you have the safety lever that is also cut to fit the slot when it's on safe.

I had to replace one once due to a dent and the only thing available was a flared cover which I thought would be a straight swap. Turns out the flared one wouldn't allow the safety to close correctly, it kept hanging it up at the back where cover started to angle down at the rear of the slot for the bolt handle.
