Tantal Gas Piston Q

What are my options for a US made Tantal gas piston for a kit build? Will a standard AK piston work? Has anyone ever made a specific US gas piston for the Tantal?

Any AK piston will work (aside from the short one that only fits the AMD-65).
I installed one of K-Var's 5.45 Laser engraved "Arsenal Match Grade" what ever the hell that means.

They are the same length as the Bulgy 74s and Tantal Wz.88.

Any standard length is just a little shorter and would certainly function fine
"Hotbarrel" on the AK files makes a Tantal copy. Picked up a couple from him, stainless, and U.S. marked. Nice guy to deal with.

+1, just installed that today as a matter of fact. Overall length is different but the actual part that protrudes from the bolt carrier is the same length. I also prefer the Arsenal one because it isn't hollowed out on the Bolt Carrier end.

just a quick note. I do the extra work to put a hole in the threaded part of the piston for a reason that was requested years back.
here is the thought behind it. when you drill through the carrier hole into the piston it is easy to go in centered BUT when you come out the other side it is easy to miss center if you drill all the way through. if you drill from both sides you end up with both holes centered however if the piston dose not have the hole in it their can be issues with the holes not lineing up exactly rite in the center, this can make rivet install difficult.
with the center hole in the piston you drill through from both sides and the center hole eliminates the issue of the holes not hitting exactly on center with each other.
I certainly can make pistons without a center hole if someone requested it for some reason.... less work for me....
again just tossing it out their. I understand everyone has their preferances and that is a good reason to hace many choises.
hope this clearifies the advantage of the small center hole.
thanks for reading HB

another quick note.
I understand that most of the time a standard piston functions, HOWEVER I can say 100% for certain that the correct lenght piston has cured cycle issues in more that one instance.
again tossing it in the mix.
certainly their are many very nice CNC pistons out their
