Sportsman's Guide customer service

A while back i broke down and bought a Krink kit. Decided it would be easier on me to use their 4-pay system. Pretty painless.

Between the second and third payment, some asshat got ahold of my card number. Luckily the card company stopped the illegal charges and notified me. A new card was on the way, so no problem.

I realize the SPG payment is coming due, and they'll try to charge a card that does not exist. Being deployed, calling isn't always easy or even possible, so i e-mailed their customer service people. i explained the situation, and was told i could send a check or just wait until i had my new card. Lady said she'd put a note in my account explaining the situation.

Not knowing how long it would take to get the new card, I decided to send a check. Every week I get a nasty-gram threatening to turn me over to a collection agency. every time i reply back with a copy of the e-mail saying it was OK to send a check, and told them when i'd done so.

Weeks have passed, and checks written after that one have been cashed and cleared. I have plenty in the bank. Yet SPG is still sending me nasty-grams. So, I call them up tonight. From what I gather they expected me to pay it off in full with the check, therefore they didn't bother cashing it. Did they destroy it? Who knows. Basically they don't aknowledge having received it.

Call up the card company, and the card was returned to them because they won't forward such things. Wish i'd known that. Anyway, card should be on the way.

Anyway, this wasn't my first run-in with SPG. Just prior to this incident i'd ordered three lots of ammo. First went great, as did the third. The second was just "out there". Nothing shipped or charged. I e-mail, and they tell me i have to call them. i e-mail back, informing them i don't have phone access, and i get an e-mail back saying to call them to discuss the issue. I finally ended up canceling the order and spending less elsewhere.

Bottom line is I'll be damned if I'm going to deal with a bunch of crackheads like them ever again. If I can pay a little more elsewhere and get the same item, I'm going there.

Sorry to hear of your experience. That definitely sucks. I personally have had nothing but good experience with them. You can make a return with them on just about anything (except ammo) after any amount of time with no questions asked. I even returned a pair of boots I bought from them after wearing them for a few months. The quality sucked so I sent them back and just checked off on the form that I wasn't happy with them and got a full refund (less shipping) fairly quickly. When SPG had that used AK mag special a while back, I made several orders. Whenever I got a rusty mag or one with some other problem, I just called them and they sent replacement mags without having to send back the bad ones.
i quit dealing with sg 3 or 4 years ago because of there cus-ser. its a shame they do have some good prices. but i have 0 tolerance for ass-hats. since all they have to do is look at a screen and punch some buttons to get shit right you think it would not be so hard.

so where are you deployed afghanistan or iraq.
I'm in Afghanistan
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with SPG, seems to be a lot of that going around lately. To address the problem on my end (which may/may not work where you are) I started using proirity mail with delivery confirmation. I find it very satisfying to have tracking info. at hand when I call to get a problem resolved and the person at the other end of the line seems clueless. "Yes sir/maam, your company recieved the returned package at xxxAM on xxxxx date, here's the tracking # check it yourself. BTW how soon I can expect the correct part to be shipped back to me ??". Seems to take all the BS out of the equation. Good Luck.
well give em hell. as far as a krink goes why don't you try to come up with a captured weapon, take a hacksaw to it or maybe have it dewated and ship it home.

Not legal.
Sportsman Guide was the main ammo supplier to the AK community for several years. About 3 years ago, when the price of ammo started going thru the roof, the company was sold. Now, they are not promoting the ammo, nor the specials on shipping, or discount coupons like they were. I know there wasnt a lot of mark up at those ammo prices ([email protected] per k), but many people picked up other items with an order.

well that sucks
SPG sucks. I haven't done business with them for over a year because they tried to screw me once and overcharged me another time.
nothing but good thing to say about SG CS, hell thay gave me a free mag
Sorry to hear that. I know the frustration that can compound with being deployed and devoid of the ability to contact or communicate with the "world."

Some people like Tapeo seem to have all the luck.?? Nothing but possitive experiences. That said, there is no shortage of (pic your forum of choice) SG dis-satisfaction posts. There doesnt seem to be a whole lot of middle ground with the company. Either your order was a success, or a disaster. Their customer service seems absolutely atrocious from the dealings people post on a regular basis. No part of that company seems to know what the other is doing as far as I can tell. Maybe thats just what happens with companies that large? I dunno.

I gathered what I could from feedback/experiences posted by others and made an informed decision to do buisness elsewhere (even if its a bit more $) instead of "rolling the dice." Sorry you got burned before you came to that conclusion.

Keep your head down
If its easier, you could email me the info and I could call them on your behalf. If they give me any shit I'll remind them where you are. Sometimes companies are retarded via email and then easy to deal with over the phone.
That a very gracious offer on your behalf

I really appreciate the offer, but it looks like the only solid solution is for my thirty-nine year old ass to go ask Mommy to make a payment for me. This is rediculious! Nothing like having money you can't use. The card should be here pretty quick, not that i have that fiasco straight.

But yeah, their products, as far as i've seen, were great. Their customer service doesn't reflect that, and i'd rather take my business elsewhere next time. In fact, I have been ever since the ammo fiasco.
I stopped dealing with those mo-rans a few years ago. had a membership, and was using it for some decent deals on AK ammo. then they started going out of stock, and not honoring the backordered prices, and when I called them about it they basically insulted my career choice (.mil) and said if i wanted the ammo from them, i was going to pay their price or i could go pound sand. real nice folks.
