Ok, I have an Intrac Maadi on layway that was built in '93.

I bought it because I wanted a fairly inexpensive beat-around "truck gun", something I can throw around and not worry about it.

Well, of course that isn't working......I'm thinking too much about it.

Travis and John's Maadi's are starting to work on me.

I was thinking of turning it into an East German MPiKMS-72 clone.....then I got the bright idea........

Khyber Pass AKMS..............

I'm seriously thinking about doing this.

But then......would it remain the inexpensive truck gun that I bought it for?

Do it Tim,you can always pick up a MISR 10 converted to high cap or even a SAR 1 or WASR for a truck gun.The Maadi ARM is the perfect platform for any Eastern European AKM type AK.

Maadi ARM in Soviet Stock set,

Maadi ARM in East German Stock Set,

There's only one real answer to Templar's dilema, do BOTH. Your just going to do the East German first like you wanted and then get another one to do up like Bin Laden's or vise versa ...

Ok........I'm starting to think rationally (kinda) again.

I'm going to go DDR on the Maadi...........and when the Arsenal SLR-108's finally make it to market I'm gonna buy two or three of them.

One will be a true AKM clone.

One will get turned into a Khyber Pass AKMS clone.

There.....simple, uncomplicated thought process.......

Now all I need is the money! :goof:

Tim, that gun BEGS to be turned into a Russian AKM!!! Maadi Arm, built on russian tooling! I think you should go get a WASR for a truck gun!

Ok, heres what I would do, and actually AM having Josh Newton do:

Purchase east german late barrel section from AA-OK

Purchase the correct US compliant parts, your probably going to want a few sets of US floor plates and followers for this project

Next, purchase a pristine set of late Soviet AKM wood, you know, the type with the side sling swivel that costs so damn much!!!

Lastly, rebuild gun, refinish and have a very nice example of a Russian late model AKM!! Oh and of course you could always take it one step further and send it to Ted Marshall to have all the correct russian markings put on the gun

Tim,

Just keep the Maadi as is. Use it for a truck gun...save some money. The plus side is, you won't be thinking of modifying it at a late date. I'm sure you've got a great collection already. You NEED that Maadi in your truck...do you understand...as is!

There. I tried to talk you out of it. (Modification, that is).

I'll have to say I am with tommygun on this one.

I have two Intrac ARM's that have gone or are in the process of going through "Russianization".

They are getting exactly what TG suggested, East German front ends and Russian wood.

Here is the first one all done.
I really need to get some better pics of it.
This gun was a near basket case I got for a deal.
The gas bock and front sight were both canted....in opposite directions.
The bolt carrier was stuck halfway into battery because of the twist.

Here are some before shots.
Never mind the Polish wood.
I did not have the side swivel butt at the time.

Maadis make the best Russian AKM's, besides a Russian of course.
