Hi All,

I have just purchased my first AK, a SLR-105R...it is a BAN model. I would really like to convert it, but am not really mechanically inclined. I have been told that the theads are probably turned down which would most likely preclude me from having the skills to fix it..any help would be greatly appreciated! BTW, I have attempted to contact Arsenal to see if they might do it, but have yet to receive a reply...

Thanks!

Remove and replace the front sight base with a new one from K-Var.

Sight base: (out of stock at this time)

You will also need the 74 brake.

Brake:

Most of the time you will need a press to preform this but you might luck out and the front sight base be a loose fit. Punch out the two pins on the bottom of the sight base and go from there. If your lucky, a ruber mallet will take the sight base off, if your lucky.

Thanks JNewt,

Sorry for the bonehead question, but what kind of press would I need? Thr FS "seems" to be pretty tight...

Just a cheapy 12 ton Harbor Freight special will do just fine, I use one every day. They run about $110 or so. I am sure there are other ways that people use as well, might ask around.

If all else fails, Get the sight base from K-Var, send me the rifle and sight base, feild stripped, buttstock removed, well boxed with a return shipping label. I will press the old one off and press the new one on for you. When you get it back, just drill your new pin holes, punch in the pins and wa la.
