I have an AR15 SOPMOD buttstock for sale on another forum that a buyer from overseas (Finland) has contacted me about buying. Is this legal and what are the risks involved in shipping gun parts overseas?

I would imagine that your greatest risk is having the other country's customs agents seizing your package.

You could try calling or emailing a Finnish consulate or embassy for info.

+ 1 to what Tapeo1 said.

It could get seized or stolen.

I've shipped a lot of stuff overseas and never had any real problems. I had one package (not gun related) stopped by Russian customs... they took what they wanted and sent the rest back to me... got it back about 6 months later.

If the package can't be tracked or insured... it's not your problem if it gets "lost" of "stolen". I'd make sure the buyer understands that if you do decide to sell to him.

One thing I might add, the gun community as a whole, whether here in the US or abroad, is typically (in my experience), the easiest group of people to deal with... not much whining and honest.

I don't sell to anyone overseas.

I knew something about an export issue and under $100

Sorry this took so long to find but I had a hard time locating some info on companies willing to ship gun parts overseas. As long as its under $100 you are ok.

What was the SOPMOD stock sold for used?

Comments for shipping overseas from a company.
"Current Regulations require An Export License for all Gun Part orders exceeding $100 (U.S.) WE CAN NOT SHIP any orders over $100 U.S for gun parts. Items such as holsters, slings, clothing, backpacks, hearing protection, gun cases, books and videos are not considered gun parts and may be shipped to you."

I am not trying to scare the bejesus out of you but:
