I installed (then un-installed) my first virgin barrel this past weekend.

When I slid the handguard retainer on I came to a quick realization that I had clocked the barrel out quite a bit. I pulled the barrel and installed another to remedy the immediate problem, but now Ive got a barrel with the barrel pin and RSB pin drilled way off.

I figure I have 2 options:

1) weld up the pin holes and start again
2) weld up the handguard retainer slots and remachine.

So my question is: Can I weld on the barrel, and if so which option should I take?

thanks!

yeah, this is why I install virgin barrels with the lower HG and retainer installed, so i can clock the barrel, then I headspace and after the headspace and HG retainer is the way i like it I drill the trunnion pin, and pin the barrel.

only then do i assemble the rear sight block, gas block and front sight block based off the rear dust cover ;-) and do everything by eye....
