You should be able to grind down the spot welds with a side grinder or dremel. It will probably take you a while to do it without damaging the gas tube. You will have to park & paint or just paint it once the spot welded areas are smoothed out. Good luck.

Couple guys on the Saiga forum just popped it off with a screw driver IIRC...

I ve done one,I ground of the end spot weld then worked the metal back and forth till I could get the other spot welds to break.
