I have never seen a Saiga 12/20/.308 in person, but around here .410 Saigas are quite common. I know they are a good "base" for custom AKs, so the question is: What would be necessary to convert a Saiga .410 to .223?
Now, hear me out before you call me crazy. A .410 is larger, both in diameter and length, but I think it can be done. It will be changed to PG configuration. The bolt obviously needs to be changed, but I wondered if the bolt carrier can still be used? For the barrell I can buy a blank and turn down if necessary, possibly still using the front trunnion. Is the magwell in a .410 Saiga the same size as the AK47/74 magwell?
I plan on just buying a Saiga .410, even if I cannot convert it to .223. I have bulit an AK74 before, so I have some experience. I am a machinist, so I have access to lathes, mills, and any other goodies needed.
