There seems to be some debate but the way I understand is that if your ammo is caught up in a fire, it will pop and make alot of noise but the projectiles won't go far without a barrel channelling the explosions. Is this true?
We burned up thousands of rounds of AK ammo in the sardine cans when I was down range in '91. The steel cases flew futher than the projectiles did......generally.
I read that the cases go further because they're lighter than the bullet. I don't know this for sure but I'm not going to stand around to find out.
