Is there a relatively easy, non-lethal chemical way to remove chrome or nickel plating? I was given smoe parts that are very nice but someone deicded to chrome plate them (or maybe it is nickel) at some point. Can bead blasting remove it, or are the parts pretty much stuck this way?

You should be able to remove the finish with a more agressive media like aluminum oxide instead of using glassbeads. Depending on what the parts are you might be able to just rough up the surface and duracoat or molyresin them.

reverse plating

I tried to blast off nickel plating usin silicon carbide - it didnt work - finally took it to a plater and they basically removed the plating by reversing the plating process.
