Does a barrel have to be removed to replace the rear sight base? Thanks

No, I use a wrench that wraps around the hole for the barrel and lay that on the ak-builder bars. The ones I have done took a lot of pressure to break loose (almost making out my 12T press)

That's nonsense, a competent builder will have no problem removing every part off a barrel with little fuss.

True, but personally I don't like having a receiver banging into anything and I really don't have tons of clearance on the bottom side of my press. Getting rid of 10" of receiver sure makes it easier for me.

Well, you could put a sock around the receiver, or something like that.
Not sure about your press, but mine has an open bottom, so at worst, I just have to put it up on blocks to do a tricky job. :smile:
