Smokey and the Bandit would have been just a run-of-the-mill Burt Reynolds action movie without him.

Yeah I agree. He never took himself too seriously and that's partly why he was so likable.
When an interviewer asked him all serious like why he pursued a carer away from music into the movies he said without missing a beat, For the money of course...
And that's why we liked him.

A mans life should be evaluated by the positive effect he has on others. That said, Jerry Reed as an entertainer and as human being would be classified as a very successful man. He made people laugh and brought joy into the lives of many people. His work was approachable, people of all intellects could enjoy his wit and home spun style. RIP Jerry you will be missed.
