I thought about that but it is such a low mass part. Usually the handguard that would be pushed up on by your hand is floated on a rifle where accuracy is on the line.

I wondered if it had anything to do with the piston & actuation reliability. But, you could be right. Are the Tantals noted for their accuracy relative to other AK-pattern 5.45x39's?

Occam's Razor, that's probably the correct answer.

I forgot about the takedown lever/screw differences.
