So I've been eye-balling the new LMT AR-10 platform, which comes with a 1/10 twist rifled barrel. I know the 1/10 rifling is designed for the heavier projectiles (usually match-type rnds).

But - Does anybody know if the 1/10 twist will stabilize regular M80 ball? I don't want a semi auto that I have to feed filet mingon... I've already got a tricked out 40X for that.

I shoot M80 ball out of my Sendero .308 with no issues and very acceptable groups. It has a 1/10 twist also. I think 1/12 is optimum for M80 ball though.

Get the faster twist. The 175gr SMK are the way to go if you really want to get the last couple yards of supersonic travel out of your 308. Of course, using a long barrel helps too. My buddy sold his 18" AR10 because he could not get enough velocity for the BDC cams in his scope to work, even with handloads.
