Yes it's true them mated them together. The only falsehood is that the mount is made of steel.. it's cast alloy with a steel throw lever and locking piece

Now that I think about it, it doesn't seem likely that a PU scope from ww2 could either be compensated for 7.62 or 5.45.
I agree, we all know the 7.62x54r was their original use. It will work, bit how great I don't know.

Interesting the Kalinka Russia website says the ПУ-1 (PU-1) system was developed in the 1980's for the 7.62 RPK. They even have two original military pages describing it:
