As some may know, I'm over in Afghanistan at the moment and have been tracking down gear for myself and any I can find for others.

Two years ago, while here, a friend introduced me to a gentleman who could get some really interesting military gear. He brought in Soviet uniforms i'd never heard of, and I've been collecting for maybe 25 years?

Anyway, the guy went on to explain he'd been approached by a foreign film maker about supplying uniforms for a movie about the Soviet war in Afghanistan. He supplied 3,000 uniforms for this movie! Any takers on what it was?

Anyway, I have to assume it was Rota 9. Can't ever remember any other film about the war that used authentic uniforms, or in that kind of quantity.

My delima is this; he's never seen the film. I thought it might be cool to get him a copy, but I don't remember how they portrayed the Afghanis. I don't think he'd be one to get upset about the movie, but I know he'll show friends. Should I do it?

Don't forget "Escape from Afghanistan". I htink that one showed a bunch of russian POWs that staged a breakout that went bad and they all turned on each other while trapped in a cave complex. Good chinese AK porn in that one.

IIRC, it doesnt potray the Afghans in a bad light. Yes, they kill Russians but thats it.. The stinger a transport plane, but its fair game. Thats about the worst thing in the movie. They dont cut anyone's throat in their sleep, shoot prisoners, or anything else that might be portrayed as being terrorist like.

Instead, the Russians rocket an entire village.

Not like you are showing Russians Red Dawn, watching Saving Private Ryan with German soldiers, or watching Braveheart with drunken Scottish and English soldiers and watch the fights.. All of which I have done..........

Been a while since I'd seen it. Sounds like it's a "go". He's pretty easy going anyway.

Yeah, we noticed.

Rota 9 - English

Did you notice if you shipped the kit yet? Been... 7 months?

I don't think it would become an international incident, but, you probably should check to see how it looks with him first. Supposedly- and yes I am telling the truth- the leader of the less friendly Korea was offended by Team America- World Police because of the way they portrayed him. Of course, this was right around the time everyone was worrying about their desire to get nuclear capabilities. It didn't go anywhere, but then again that Russian movie is far more graphic and... well, serious.

The Afghans in 9 Rota were awesome. Determined, resourceful combatants, with no compunctions about getting in close.
