As of today, I'm officially retired from the state of Texas. At the ripe old age of 50. Weird feeling knowing I don't have to get up at 4:30am and fix what other people screwed up anymore. No more being on call 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. Wife & I have been planning this for a year before hand so we got all our ducks in a row first. We are part of the Texas teacher retirement system so no failing social security for us. TRS pays a hell of alot better, plus the insurance plan is pretty good, you just had to put up with a little lower wages while you worked, but it was worth it at the end. Add that to our other investments and we should be real comfortable. And if I get bored, I have several part time job offers waiting. Now it's Shiner Bock time.
