Thanks to everyone who answered my other question regarding MBR's. I have decided to spring for the DSA FAL even though it is more than I had originally budgeted.

Now, the question is, which one? Here are the two I can afford:

and

http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/beta/st ... ct482.aspx

From looking at DSA's website, i think the 58STDP has a 21 inch barrel and the 58C has either a 16 or 18 inch barrel, but Atlantic's website does not specify. I know i do not want a 16", and I am leaning toward the 18 inch barrel, just because 21 seems soooo long.

Thoughts?

Ask Blain if he has either in stock. That might help you make up your mind...

I probably would get the full 21 incher but thats because I have another shorter barreled rifle in .308 already.

I would get the full length rifle as your first FAL. This would let you learn and enjoy the platform as designed. A true battle-rifle.

Then later get a shortgas 16" para.

I really like my 18" FALs. IMHO they are a good compromise between a carbine and a full length MBR. If I feel like shooting a long MBR I grab the M1A.

Get the Para and ditch the bipod, which will lighten it by a good 1 1/2 lbs at least.

I'd go with the 18" if available, but the 16" is still a decent choice.

My Para happens to have a 16" barrel and it's fine.
