Background is I am a somewhat recently retired LEO and paramedic that has been looking for a hobby to fill my time. I have always had a love for the AK since my time overseas. This is my first time trying to build one and I am just lost. I had purchased a 5.5 mm folding stock set from Atlantic Arms and it is different from others because it combines both 4.5 and 5.5 features. I will post screen shots of it and what a normal one looks like that I saw on their website. My question is what is the difference? What can I do about? Did I buy a trash product? I have done some research I don't fully understand the difference.

Thank for all of those who answer. I have sought help on other websites but no help other then people just being rude.

< Having trouble understanding what you need/want to do? vs what you actually have now that needs doing?
Did you buy just the rear stock and not the entire set? ( trunnion, stock, latch, pin, etc)

Big difference of course is pin size and actual angle of the stock at the trunnion.
A few parts interchange between the two types, but main components do not. Mix 'n matching stuff probably wont work real well.
I'm sure someone will be long shortly with more detailed info, but that should be the main differences.

I have been trying to warn people previously, that many of these triangle folding stocks being marketed as "bulgarian" "russian" "foreign made" etc by vendors all over, are actually USA &/or Korean made garbage.
Trunnions are way out of spec (too wide) to the point, they cannot be thinned enough to fit into standard ak 1mm receiver, rivet holes wont line up, metal is cheap and other parts left a lot to be desired when compared to originals.

Yes sir I bought the whole set.

The one I got was the "Triangle Stock 5.5mm, 5.5mm rear folding trunnion, complete front latch kit, complete rear button release kit & rivets. These are custom fit to stamped AK’s by professional gunsmiths. The rear trunnion angle and holes are the same as a 4.5mm trunnion, the front latch uses the same location as a 5.5mm front latch hole. The pin used here though is 5.5mm."

I found out after getting the receiver it wouldn't work. The trunnion it's self is 1.25 but the holes are out of whack. Also I am not sure about the metal quality of the trunnion. I had a russian 100 folding stock trunnion but it when missing a while back ago. I still have the russian triangle stock it came with and wanted to use that in the bulid. So I am to the point of do I need to get a new trunnion, trunnion and folding stock set, or do I need to get a new receiver? I didn't know about people passing off garbage as "good quality" but also should have known better.

I bought the one you are talking about as well and I will have to get a professional to do the fitting for me. I bought it without really doing much research into the set. I just saw 5.5mm folding stock and trunnion at work and bought it without reading the discretion because I was busy. So that is one is on me and I own it lol. As to the quality of the metal, I can not speak but it is not a true ak 100 series spec. Getting started on piecing an AK build together is a learning experience and now those lessons cost a lot more than they use to. I am looking for a 100 5.5mm trunnion and don't want to make the same mistake again. As to people being rude, I don't know why that happens. Everyone is new to something when they first start. I have never met a person born with all the knowledge the world has had to offer but apparently, the internet is full of them. I just assume that their life is miserable or they have a micropenis.

I went through this a while ago, and there seemed to be different triangle stocks all over the place. I finally got tired of looking and decided that my best bet was to buy the Khyber pass receiver and the Taiwan stock from AK Builder, since they specifically stated that this combo would work. It all came together perfectly, no fit problems, nicely aligned holes and no problems whatsoever. The quality of the stock was great, maybe not military grade but very solid and well made.

With the demise of the 80% receivers, you can't buy them from AKB anymore. You will probably have to talk to Childers or Recreator and see if they either have a receiver for your particular stock, or if they know of a stock that fits one of their receivers. Another option would be to custom order a receiver without the holes, and modify it to fit your stock.

You would think that they could at least get the overall trunnion size right, so that alone tells you what you need to know. There's probably no need to even continue trying if you find that something is that badly out of whack. The Taiwan stock from AKB seems to be good though, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well it worked. It's much more expensive than the stocks from Atlantic, but there could very well be a reason for that.

I appreciate input and will probably end up working one of those. After looking around the various forums I have seen several others with similar issues. My main reason for wanting to do a 5.5mm is I have a russain triangle stock I'll post a picture in the thread. When comparing it with the one from Atlantic Arms its a world of difference in quality.

There's still time to order the combo I used from AK Builder, after the 23rd you can't buy that receiver anymore. You will have to finish up the 80% receiver though, and investing in a drill jig may not be a good idea at this point.
