Why not get a Wasr-10 this way you will have a rifle built in Romania, you can upgrade the furniture and will still have a few bucks to spare. You will also have a chrome lined cold hammer forged barrel ! Just a suggestion, Best of luck! Enjoy your first AK.

Just picked up a zastava ZPAP for my first AK. Cold hammer forged barrel, walnut furniture, cleaning rod...passed robskis 5k round test with flying colors. It is serbian, imported from serbia, and zastava does all of the import conversions now with their own facility in illinois. so its 100% zastava all the way thru. price is around 750-800 depends where you buy it. check it out!

The WASR-10 is a very good choice for a first AK as stated above. Also the Zastava m92 pap is good but the barrel is not chrome lined so you’ll have to keep it cleaned if shooting corrosive ammo. Btw, welcome to the group.
