I've looked everywhere and I can't seem to find the answer to this. I'm doing some original all parts matching builds, and I want to find a way to use the original Russian trigger for the most authentic look. I was messing around with it earlier on one of my older builds, and I found that with the trigger and disconnector installed, the safety will not clear the disconnector, meaning the safety must be installed before the trigger, therefore a standard retaining plate won't work. So my question is how can the pins be retained while using the original trigger? Obviously without using the original retaining spring on the auto sear.

If there is no way to use the original trigger, then what is the closest thing to original Russian that will work? None of the current options on the US market seem like accurate representations. Best I've used is the standard Fime, but the shape of it sucks. When I had the original trigger in earlier, it just felt and looked right, much nicer than anything else I've used (only problem is the pins couldn't be retained as I mentioned earlier).

Just use a shepherds hook
Would that actually work? I was thinking that it wouldn't work for the same reason the retaining plate won't work: you have to put the safety in before the trigger assembly and therefore there's no way to secure it around the safety with it already installed. But thinking about it now, maybe the trigger pin could "jump over" the hook as I push it in. I haven't used a shepherds hook in many moons!

What do you think they used before plates were invented.
That should work fine, I was thinking they all feed though the safety, and the Russian style is mounted on the auto sear. Only problem now is that an original trigger won't function right with the selector in the full auto position, it just drops the hammer immediately after the bolt carrier clears it (before it's in battery). Just something to be aware of I suppose.

Well after a while longer of playing with it and I was able to get the full original trigger assembly installed, this is as authentic as you can make it I suppose...

Just need a shepherds hook now. Only downside is as stated before, it won't work right with the selector in the full auto position. With a regular semi trigger it will work as semi auto in both positions.

Why not just drop a new semi-auto disconnector into your trigger assembly? Just test to make sure it functions with the spring pilot off center. Otherwise, full-auto disconnectors are pretty cheap. Just buy one and cut off the tang on the rear.
