If one has a registered sbr ak they want to sell, is it legal to demill the rifle, cut the receiver into pieces and sell the remaining parts as a kit?

Thanks in advance everybody,

An SBR can be "de-registered" throught the ATF and transferred like any other rifle (if you make it 16" of course.)

Might consider simply demilling the rifle and hanging on to the receiver since its already registered though, never know when you might want another.

I believe you would need to notify the ATF if you chop up a registered receiver though to answer your question.

ATF will tell you what they want.

It used to be that they wanted a letter documenting the fact and stating how it was demilled. Photos helped.

Why cut up the receiver? Just toss it back into the safe with the stamp and save the $200. It can always be used for another build later or sold if you find a buyer.
