Just bought a Polish Makarov

Walked into the local gun shop where I was going to pay on a lay-away and it caught my eye. The individual who sold it to them bought it from another shop and was misinformed and thought it was a 9x19 and he did not like the DA pull. Which I do not like either it feels like it is abouut a 20lb pull. Is there a way to improve it? Also the safety is kinda rough sometimes put for 149+tax I thought it was a good deal. When I got home I called the shop where the first owner bought it from and they were selling the for 249  So I think I did good

Nice, but its a P64. Not to be confused with a Makarov.

So the only thing Makarov about it is the caliber?

I was under the impression that the P64 was the Polish designation of the Makarov. Kinda of like a Polish AK is really a PKMS. Is this the case? Or are the totally different firearms? Help a brother out with the scoup

Edited---this just in...

You know this thing is looking more like a Walther copy in 9x18

Exactly what it is.
I can now play Pollock James Bond  J/K no offense to any Poles

I now have a weapon to match my Polish Underfolder.

Didn't the Polish make a Tokarav copy or a weapon chambered in 7.62x25?
The little P-64 is under rated, here's mine in a Bianci IWB Holster.

cool deal, I picked up a East German Makarov from a friend of a friend last weekend. I like it alot... Feels good in the hand and is dead on. Got it with Near flawless original bluing, 4 East German Magazines, and the original German inspection paper work. $325

It came with no paperwork, so I have a very basic question----Does it only hold 6 rounds in the mag or do I need to put some ass behind it to get the additional round(s) in?

Man I can't put more than 6 no matter how hard I try and then I saw this:http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg142-e.htm Are they usually accurate in their info
It only holds six in the mag.

It only holds six. One of the bigger drawbacks to the P64, IMO.

Wolff makes a lighter spring for it. Stock is around 24lb, they have something around 17 lb. I want to get one for mine, just have not gotten around to it.
ahh hell, I thought the p64 held 8 rounds hmm
Go to the website I linked to above. Head over to the forums. Lots of cool stuff under the "Modifications Fixes and Repairs" section. Namely the Wolff spring swap that greatly improves the DA pull. Also, in the sticky book section, there is a thread started by me where I swaped the safety plunger with one from a Walther PP. This greatly improved the feel of the safety. My original plunger was worn. I would link directly to it but you need to be a member.

Lots and lots of spare parts are now available from the importer. They have a nice website. http://www.tnguns.com/shop/index.php?ma ... 7917c8b4d9. I would try to get a few things while you can just to have as spares. These parts won't last forever.

Also, oh yes, :hail: TooL
Had this hosted already so I thought I'd add some P-64 pron.

The lower pistol is a FEG SMC-918. I just picked up one a ways back.

I stole this picture off the net. Both have grips from

http://www.marschalgrips.com/?content=Polish_P-64-models

His website ordering is fubar but apparently he's a stand up guy. So if anyone wants some, email him.

edit - Dang, I wish I would have got that Bianchi holster that Johno has. I got a Galco PPK IWB (For my SMC) and it works well, but that flap of leather on the inside would make it a bunch more comfortable against my dunlap.
