I scored an Ironwood laminate buttstock for my SAR-2. I've been installing the hardware and I've got everything installed except the spring that goes in the hole for the cleaning kit.

Is there some trick to getting this spring into the hole?

Yes the buttplate is off and there are no obstructions.

The real trick is that the coil on end of the spring that goes down in the hole is larger than the hole so that it is held in place by the spring force against the walls. I was just wondering if there was some little builders trick to make this easier.

I like to use the cleaning rod.

Run part of the large end of the spring through the hole in the rod and push the spring to the bottom of the hole.
Then twist to "unscrew" the rod.
